Malaga is the capital of the Costa del Sol, but in the past it’s been overlooked by visitors flocking to the nearby resorts of Marbella, Torremolinos and Nerja. However, Malaga has recently burst onto the international tourist scene and is now one of Andalusia’s up-and-coming holiday destinations.
Malaga might not have the glitz and glamour of Marbella or the peaceful charm of Nerja, but this dynamic city has plenty going for it especially when it comes to property. Here’s why:
One: Property in Malaga offers an alternative to the usual Costa del Sol apartment or villa. There’s plenty to choose from in Spain’s sixth largest city – period apartments in the city centre, modern flats on the seafront promenade on the west side, larger homes in the secluded hills on the east…
Two: Buying in Malaga is good investment. City properties tend to keep their value better than those in resorts and Malaga offers plenty of buy-to-let opportunities, both for short-term holiday and long-term rentals.
Three: Malaga has great communications on its doorstep. The newly expanded Malaga Airport is just a short drive/ train journey from the city centre. The AVE high-speed train whisks you to Madrid in just two and a half hours. And the new metro connects the west side of Malaga with the centre in minutes.
Four: Everyone’s talking about Malaga. The city ranks as a must-see destination in 2015 for the Rough Guides, Frommer’s, the Telegraph and the Guardian. According to Frommer’s, Malaga “is a great option for travellers who want to enjoy the cultural offerings of a vibrant city”.
Five: Malaga offers a long list of things to do and it’s getting longer. Three new museums are opening this year including the ‘pop-up’ Pompidou, the only ‘branch’ of the Paris museum outside France. As the Telegraph says, “Malaga is riding a cultural wave of new investment”.
Six: Malaga gives you the chance to experience the real Spain. It’s an authentically Andalusian city, a world apart from the Costa del Sol holiday resorts and expat ghettos.
